I researched how the increased frequency and severity of climate disasters would impact food access in cities, especially among low-income, elderly, and other vulnerable populations. I also studied the food resiliency strategies of a number of urban centers in the United States to summarize the top strategies for addressing this growing threat.
Some of the most meaningful actions that planners can take are to incorporate food systems into existing resilience planning, identify and mitigate transportation risks, assess the mix of local and regional food supplies, and address existing inequities while building economic opportunities.
